 Operation Holiday
Operation Holiday & the Goddard Mitten Tree
Providing a happier holiday for less fortunate families.

Each year the Goddard Lions Club, with the help of the community's churches, schools, businesses and individuals sponsor Goddard Area Operation Mitten Tree to provide food, clothing, and gifts to families in our community who need assistance during the holiday season.

The Goddard Lions, in an effort to allow a greater population of the community to get involved, will put up a Helping Hand Mitten Tree at the Goddard Pizza Hut to assist in helping get presents for the children on our list. All mittens have items that the children need, along with their age and if they are girl or boy. What mittens are not taken must be bought for, plus the committee also tries to make sure that every child has a complete outfit with their Christmas gifts and a coat if needed.

The community businesses and schools last year strongly supported our effort by donating over $4,400.00 to the project for buying gifts and food, but the need for donations is still great. We do need the help of every person in the community and our schools to make Goddard Operation Mitten Tree a success.

Many times businesses, community organizations, classrooms, student organizations, and school staff members look to us or other organizations to do something special at the holiday season. I encourage you to share the following information.

  • Contribute to food drives held by schools and community groups. This food makes up the food baskets distributed at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  • Choose a mitten from the Mitten tree at White's Foodliner and purchase gifts for a child. The Mitten Tree will be up on Tuesday, November 25Unwrapped gifts need to be returned by Friday, December 5.

  • Help sort and wrap gifts on Saturday December 20, from 9 AM to 2PM. at the Goddard Community Center. Please bring scissors, a role of tape and a roll of wrapping paper. Also, gift boxes are in demand this year as well to wrap clothing and other smaller items in.  If classrooms or businesses wish to do community service during business hours please call Annette Singletary at ext. 2113.

  • Cash contributions for Operation Holiday can be made to: Goddard Lions Club Operation Holiday, in care of Emprise Bank, P.O. Box 318, Goddard, KS 67052. All donations are tax deductible. Cash contributions are used to purchase gifts for children not selected from the mitten tree and supplemental food items.

Again, thank you for your continued support to our children and community.
