SENATE RESOLUTION
No. 1819—
A RESOLUTION
congratulating and commending the
Goddard High School Lion PRIDE band.
WHEREAS, The Goddard High School Lion PRIDE Band won seven performance trophies
at the largest ever National Outback Bowl Band Festival held in Tampa, Florida
December 30, 2000. The awards were presented December 31, 2000, at a New Year’s
Eve Awards Ceremony and Party, with the Jazz Band accepting the Grand Champion
trophy;
and
WHEREAS, Goddard won the following additional awards in
their class: First, Field Show; first, Jazz Band; first, Concert Percussion;
second, Parade; second, Concert Band; second, Marching Percussion. The Goddard
bands placed either first or second in every division in which they competed;
and
WHEREAS, The Jazz Band Grand Champion Trophy won by
Goddard was awarded to the group scoring the most points in competition among
all schools regardless of size. In all, 29 bands competed at the festival,
making it the largest high school band bowl festival in the nation this season;
and
WHEREAS, The 150 Goddard band students who made the
Florida trip also led a parade at Disney World and participated in the mass band
half-time show at the Outback Bowl game January 1, 2001: Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas:
That we congratulate and commend the Goddard High School Lion PRIDE band; and
Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of the
Senate be directed to provide an enrolled copy of this resolution to George V.
Tignor, Principal, Goddard High School, P.O. Box 189, Goddard, Kansas
67052-0189.
On emergency motion of Senator Harrington SR 1819 was
adopted unanimously.
Senator Harrington recognized and congratulated members
of the band.
