Note from Mr. Edelman...
To our GMS parents and community:
The new school year is launched and we will soon be experiencing the joy of making music. Thank you for your support, and particularly for encouraging your student to continue their study of music. This investment of time, effort and energy will produce lifelong dividends.
Throughout the year you will be receiving communications from our Instrumental Music Department concerning upcoming concerts and other pertinent information. This website will also contain all of the information that you will need. However, if something is not on our website that you would find helpful, please let me know by shooting me a quick email (pedelman@goddardusd.com) and I will make sure that it gets posted.
I know that the first question I get every year from parents is ?What materials do my students need?? Please look a little higher on this page, and you will see a list. If you have any questions, please call me ASAP.
It is important to me that you know I am always available if you have questions or concerns. The easiest way to get a hold of me is by email, or by calling my cell phone at (316) 210-4098. I also am available before school at GMS from 5:30-7:15 to help any middle school student who needs an extra hand, and after school from 3:00-4:30 at the high school for any high schooler who needs some extra help. If your student wants to take advantage of this time, I just ask that you call or email me so that I know to expect them. My weekly before-school schedule is available on our website.
Evidence continues to focus on music as a vital component in the positive growth of every child. For years we have pointed to the music students as those who have demonstrated a special talent. However, based on extended studies we now know it is the very process of learning music that develops the artistic mind and brings forth the creative potential in all young people. For this reason, among many others, continued membership in our musical family is strongly encouraged and appreciated.
In addition to the support that you can give your individual student at home, you can support our programs in general by joining our booster organization. They are truly integral in the success of our program. The Goddard Instrumental Music Boosters meet the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 in the Goddard High School Instrumental Music Room.
Once again, it is a privilege to have all of our students as valued musicians in our organizations. Thank you for your support of music education at GMS and in Goddard in general. You play an important role in everything we do. Welcome to our new school year!
Sincerely,
Philip Edelman
