Pack 775 Scholarship Policy

2007 Updates

The scholarship fund will be capped at an upper limit of $500.  When the fund exceeds $500 the Pack 775 Committee will make a decision on who to donate the extra funds to.  Suggestions should be made at the Committee meeting.  Excess funds will be given to the agreed upon charity in the amout of $100.  Therefore, once the scholarship fund exceeds $600, a $100 gift will be given to a charity which brings the fund back down to $500.  At the next Pack meeting the Pack will be told which charity was given the money.  This will help teach the boys that their efforts to raise money for less fortunate scouts will help in other ways also.

Background

In the fall of 2005, the Pack 775 Committee decided to set up a “scholarship” fund to pay the scouting fees for those boys who express a desire to join scouting in Pack 775 but are unable to afford the registration fees associated with joining the Pack.

Application

To be considered for eligibity in the use of Pack 775 scholarship funds a letter or email needs to be sent to the current Committee Chairman and Pack Cubmaster. No specific format is required and no financial numbers are required in the letter. Just an explanation of who wants to join scouting and why they want to join.

Decision

The current Committee Chairman will review the application letter/email and decide if scholarship funds will be used for the applicant. If it is decided to pay the fees for the applicant the Committee Chairman will contact the Treasurer to have a check in the required amount attached to the applicants scouting registration papers. The Committee Chairman will then alert the Pack 775 Committee at the next Committee meeting of his/her use of the scholarship fund. Any discussion will take place then.
