Boy Scout Troop 776 25th Anniversary Commemarative Patch

Celebrating 25+ Years of Scouting
April, 2005

The Goddard Boy Scout Troop was first started in January 1949 as Troop 76 chartered to the Goddard United Methodist Church under the leadership of Scoutmaster P.L. Renner.  One of the original scouts was Bobby Means, former Mayor of Goddard and who today serves on the Goddard City Council and is a well-known leader of the community.

A young scout by the name of  Tony Perez joined the troop in 1950.  Tony’s son David would later join the troop in 1979 and David’s son is presently a scout in the troop today.

In 1951 Boy Scout Troop 76 became Troop 776.

No records for the troop exist from 1955-1965.

In March of 1966, Boy Scout Troop 776 was re-chartered to the Goddard Lions Club.  Records show Pascual "Pete" Perez served as Scoutmaster over the troop from 1965-1967.

C.S. Brandt served as Scoutmaster from 1967 to 1977 when the troop’s charter apparently lapsed in 1978 as there are no re-charter records on file.

In March, 1979 Dan Funke restarted Troop 776 as Scoutmaster and today serves as the Troop's Charter Organization Representative.  Bob Maben signed on as his Assistant Scoutmaster and continues in that role today.  The Troop consisted of 17 scouts.  Two of those scouts serve with the Troop today, Committee Member David Perez and Scoutmaster Jeff Piper.

In 2003 and 2004, Troop 776 was recognized as the Quivira Council White Buffalo District's Troop of the Year.  Also in 2004, the Troop's Scoutmaster Jeff Piper was recognized as the Quivira Council White Buffalo District's Scoutmaster of the Year.

The Troop earned the White Buffalo Districts' Advancement Chairman Award of Merit for maintaining a level of scout advancement above the national average in 2004 and 2005 and has also been recognized each year as a Quality Unit since _____.
